Each Band/exemplar consists of around 100 Tafeln/Tables. Each of these Tafeln deals with a subject, like animals. Furthermore there is an explaining text in German and French and later also in English and Italien. We imported the scans of these texts as well and also transcriptions of the German texts.

This Wiki is part of the virtual picture archive Pictura Paedagogica Online and the research project CEDIFOR. We imported around 12000 pictures into this wiki in order to enhance the searchability and the interactivity. For this we used Friedrich Justin Bertuchs encyclopedia for children "Bilderbuch für Kinder" published between 1790 and 1830. The encyclopedia is structured as follows:

Each Band/exemplar consists of around 100 Tafeln/Tables. Each of these Tafeln deals with a subject, like animals. Furthermore there is an explaining text in German and French and later also in English and Italien. We imported the scans of these texts as well and also transcriptions of the German texts.

We also defined tasks for citizen science, which are easy to introduce because of the wiki structure, that is in itself collaborative:

  1. Enriching of data via links to Wikidata.
  2. Transcribing of the multilingual explanation texts
  3. Adding of external sources in order to get new information about Bertuch and his work. We also use this to spot pictures where Bertuch copied from other authors or other authors copied from Bertuch.
